What is DNS?
Domain Name System. Often described as the phonebook of the Internet, when someone enters yourdomain.com into their browser, a DNS server will ferry this request to the right web server for the page you requested. DNS is also used to route your email messages to the correct mail servers.
The registrar where you bought your domain may well offer a DNS service, but we recommend using Cloudflare for DNS to all our clients.

How does Cloudflare make a website faster?
Cloudflare keeps copies of your site's files in data centres around the world, so visitors load from the nearest point and data travels less distance. It also compresses files and uses newer protocols so pages render faster.
Does it really stop DDoS attacks?
Yes. All traffic passes through Cloudflare's network, which absorbs very large attacks and filters abnormal traffic before it reaches your real server, so the site stays up during an attack.
Will the site go down when DNS moves to Cloudflare?
No, provided every existing record is copied before the name servers are switched — a step we always double-check. The change propagates gradually within 24 hours while visitors keep using the site.
Is Cloudflare's free SSL secure enough?
It secures the connection between users and Cloudflare, but you should set the mode to Full (Strict) and install a certificate on the origin server too, so traffic is encrypted end to end. We set that as standard.
Do we need a paid plan?
The free plan is enough for most corporate websites. Pro and above suit sites that need a detailed WAF, in-depth reporting and automatic image optimisation. We'll help you assess whether it's worth it first.
